Cadet & Youth Flag American Football Club
Cadet & Youth Flag American Football Club
Founded in 2016, we are an American Football Team for boys and girls aged 7-16 based in the Southampton area on the South Coast of England.
We play Cadet and Youth Flag American Football and our aim is simply to encourage children to join in, have fun and play in a safe and friendly environment.
Our aim is to introduce boys and girls into the sport and teach them the fundamentals of the game which in turn may lead to them graduating to the contact game at aged 13 or continuing in flag football through Youth and into the adult level.
In our first year we played in the 'local' SEYAF (South East Youth American Football) league against teams from Kent and Sussex and went on to win the Cadet Division unbeaten.
In our second year we moved on to the National Stage and play in the BAFA (British American Football Association) Southern Conference and in 2019 we were very proud to see our Cadet team reach the National Finals in their first competitive season finishing #7 in the nation, while our Youth Team only narrowly missed out on the National Finals by 1 game.
We had high hopes for success in 2020 and looked forward to the season with excitement, but as it was for everyone, COVID-19 came along and dashed all our chances of playing competitive football. We returned to competition in 2021 and what a successful return it was with our u17 White Squadron and u17 Red Squadrons winning their respective National Championships and our u14 Blue Squadron picking up 3rd place in the Plate Finals. Meanwhile in its first year our u11 Squadron went from strength to strength in their non-competitive tournament season.
Having started the team with just 5 players, we have made great strides in a very short time and now boast a squad of over 40 players across 1 x u11 Team, 2 x u14 Teams and 1 x u16 Team and following on from our successful first few seasons in the National Leagues we feel we have a very bright future, so join us and let your children be part of something special.
All of our coaches are certified to BAFCA Level 1 or higher, are fully DBS checked and we have the proper Safeguards in place to protect your children including risk assessments and our Team Welfare Officer
Our team employs a policy of equality and diversity, children of all races, genders and abilities train and play alongside each other in equality. We don't put up with bullying in any form !
We believe that above all else, the players must enjoy the game or why would they play ? We try to make practice as fun as possible, while teaching the fundamentals of the game.
American Football is the ultimate team sport, no individual can win or lose a game. We work hard to ensure that the team work together and build an ‘All in’ ethos.
This is a great way to get children in the fresh air, away from their devices and get them exercised and energised and keep them healthy.
American Football requires discipline both on and off the field and helps teach children about respect and the value of ‘doing your job’
"A very open and welcoming club, my son felt like a part of the team from day one"
"Best way to summarise this great club is that it is now our extended family"
"Our son has simply loved playing from the start and in his owns words he felt 'welcomed' ! "
"We can’t thank the coaches enough. The warmth and encouragement shown to my son is truly heart warming. Recognising that he has additional needs, but still very much treated as part of one united team means the world to us. "
"My 10 year old, struggling with sudden onset anxiety, decided he wanted to join the team, was overwhelmed when Gavin, a family friend, wasn’t there at his first training session, Chris, then just a parent, encouraged him to join in, Paul took him under his wing, I can honestly say I don’t think I have ever seen my son so happy to be involved with sport. The coaches, parents and most importantly of all the children are amazing! Up the Spitfires!!!! "
"My son is proud to be a member of the Spitfires. He looks forward to every game and every training. I credit that to the amazing coaching staff and the camaraderie of the team. "
