Starting the day with only 5 players was always going to be tough for the Renegades and they went behind early with a long TD from the Spitfires. Strong defence would limit Berkshire to few opportunities and it was only a couple of missed tackles that would lead to their single score...but the Spitfires intercepted their XP attempt for 2pts to make Berks' joy shortlived.
Controlling the field and the clock the Spitfires offence marched down the field leading to 4 more touchdowns to run out comfortable 36 - 6 winners.
Going into game we knew this would be a tougher affair, with the RedStorm having dispatched our Blue Squadron earlier in the day. RedStorm went straight to their best player on the first play of the game with a run play and poor tackling saw a quick score from the mazy run.
Poor discipline at the line of scrimmage (offsides and false starts) from the Spitfires offence made the job much harder than it should have been but a trio of touchdown passes and a clutch 2pt XP would see the Spitfires ahead 20-19 at half time.
The Spitfires offense continued to move the ball while the defense closed down the Red Storm completely holding them scoreless in the second half. Another couple of scores and an interception would see the Spitfires go 2-0 on the day behind a 34 - 19 victory.
Age, size and experience told in this battle of Spitfires but the Blue Squadron never gave up despite going behind early with a pick 6. A couple of further picks from the Red defense together with multiple TD passes own offense, the Red Squadron ran out comfortable winners 54-6. Funniest moment of the day was in this game when Sofia would go on a winding run and gain lots of yards, not least because she dodged a tackle from older brother Matteo....it'll take some time before she lets him forget that one I'm sure!
With the benefit of age and experience the Red Squadron start the season 3 - 0
